Multi-functioning Conceptual Fashion, 2018
Kanekalon #1, named after the synthetic hair fiber, is a multi-functioning conceptual fashion collection. It was created to be in gallery neighboring fine arts, but can be used as a fully functioning garment or accessory. This extremely versatile but inexpensive textile is uniquely important to black women. In this body of work, I comment on the realities of going unnoticed or being difficult to see, invisibility, despite the boldness of characteristics; whether it is intentional or unintentional, such as, being over shadowed or blending in with one’s environment, and how it relates to the black female identity.
